Today’s Trends In Childrens T-Shirts

Today’s trends in childrens T-shirts are largely reflective of parental desires that their kids be comfortable yet relevant and stylish at the same time. In the old days, T-shirts used to be looked upon as something that was generally too casual for many situations outside of rough-and-tumble play in the outdoors or to bum around in the house.

Many times, children would use larger sized T-shirts as makeshift or preferred sleepwear, though most childrens T-shirts, especially those with plenty of graphics on the front or back or both sides, but really the best items to substitute for pajamas or nightgowns. Generally, children from three years old to 14 years old have certain tastes and T-shirts.

Younger children, such as those from 3 to 8, seem to go for T-shirts that are more classic in design and have well-recognized cartoon characters or other characters from popular children’s culture such as Pokemon, Batman, Spiderman and the like. Young girls, on the other hand, still seem to prefer the more feminine characterizations like Cinderella or other fairytale princesses.

As always, the younger crowd goes in a big way for most Disney-related characters while newer-era movie characters such as Harry Potter and Dora the Explorer has begun to move in on the action. Owing to this last summer’s movie success, Transformers T-shirts are enjoying a fair bit of popularity among both boys and girls, though they sell more robustly among boys.

Collections of childrens T-shirts can make a good gift for a child’s birthday or at Christmas or any other special occasion. Those with nice graphics and thick or cotton weaves or blends that have hardy stitching and that can stand up to multiple washings are most welcome as gifts by many a child’s parents these days. The great thing is that most T-shirts for children aren’t really all that expensive.

By the time children begin to hit their teen years — such as those who are 13 or 14 years old — a parent would be hard-pressed to find one in a Tom and Jerry T-shirt or in a T-shirt portraying a cartoon character that would probably be more appropriate for kids of a younger set of pages. For those early teen children or adolescents, T-shirts that depict characters from Marvel comics are always a good choice for boys.

Girls hitting those teen years are not usually looking for little Disney princesses, but rather are beginning to move from a character such as Hannah Montana two characters that are more along the lines of Japanese anime art such as T-shirts from Ben 10 or T-shirts that might be more culturally relevant for a 13 or 14 year old and that would look good with a pair of blue jeans.

The newest trend in high quality childrens T-shirts — as far as material composition those — is those kinds of T-shirts that are made of lighter weight materials like polyester. Both durable and yet very much more light in weight, a good T-shirt made from 100% polyester can come direct from the clothes dryer and right onto a teenager’s body without having to be ironed free of wrinkles.

At least in the case of girls of any age, wrinkle free clothing seems to be a high priority, even if it involves casual T-shirts. Most young girls would rather sit through an endless series of reruns of Masterpiece Theatre rather than be caught outside in something that has even a single wrinkle on it. Boys, on the other hand, generally could care less whether there is one wrinkle or thousand, it seems.

Perhaps the most timeless designs in the T-shirt world are always character shirts. Adults and children alike seem to have no problem supporting a nice T-shirt that has their favorite character from some popular culture medium on it. Popular on wristwatches, Disney’s Mickey Mouse also seems to be a preferred character on both boys and girls T-shirts, regardless of age.

As a cultural phenomenon, the Disney mouse means different things to different people. On children’s T-shirts, he may be something playful and carefree while on an adult T-shirt Mickey may be making a statement about an adult who still wants to hold on to some small part of his childhood or who is just saying to people that he is suffering from a bit of arrested development!

Whatever the reason or the cause for putting on a bit of casual wear, children’s T-shirts are classic, timeless and also completely modern. They’re also appropriate for almost every occasion outside of a formal dance or some situation where a polo shirt or even a shirt and tie or — in the case of girls – where a dress or stylish pants and a top is more suitable.
